How to Add Polygon (Matic) to Metamask

MetaMask is a decentralized wallet common among Ethereum users. However, with its ability to connect with other blockchains, it can also be used with Polygon Network (formerly known as Matic). This guide will explain how to add Polygon Network to MetaMask so you can access dApps at a fraction of the cost. Whether it’s minting NFTs on OpenSea or swapping MATIC tokens in MetaMask, this guide will show you how easy it is to get started.

How to add Polygon Network to MetaMask

Adding Polygon Network (formerly known as Matic) to MetaMask is easy and straightforward. All you need is the MetaMask wallet, which can be downloaded for free from the official website. Once you have your MetaMask wallet set up, you can add the Polygon Network in just a few simple steps:

Step 1: Open the MetaMask browser extension on your preferred browser.

Step 2: Click on the settings tab in the top right corner of the extension window.

Step 3: In the new window, select “Networks” from the left-hand menu.

Step 4: Scroll down to find where it says “Add Network,” and click on it.

Step 5: Enter Polygon’s network ID (0xadb9e2ce3922a6c006932f93d5620bd991cfeb37) into the “Network address” field.

Step 6: In the “Network name” field, enter “Polygon (Matic)”.

Step 7: Enter the new RPC URL https://rpc-mainnet.maticvigil.com into the “RPC URL” field.

Step 8: Change the chain ID in the “Chain ID” field to “137.”

Step 9: Enter the symbol “MATIC” into the “Symbol” field.

Step 10: Click on the “Save & Close” button and you will see Polygon Network has been added to your networks list in MetaMask. Afterward, you will be able to start using MetaMask with Polygon Network. You can interact with any Ethereum dApp on the network or use it to swap tokens and other assets.

Note: Refer to Chainlist for the latest RPC details.

How to send Polygon tokens and NFTs from other wallets to Metamask

Sending Polygon tokens and NFTs from other wallets to MetaMask is an easy process. The first step is to find the address of your MetaMask wallet. This can be done by clicking on the “Receive” tab in the navigation bar at the top of the window when you are logged into your MetaMask account. Once you have the address, use it to send funds and/or NFTs from other wallets.

To send tokens, just copy and paste your MetaMask wallet address into the “Send” tab of the other wallet and enter the number of tokens you want to transfer. Confirm the transaction on both wallets, and the tokens will be sent from the other wallet to your MetaMask.

To send NFTs, it is necessary to use a third-party platform such as OpenSea or Rarible in order to transfer the NFTs. Copy and paste your MetaMask wallet address into the “Send” tab of the platform and enter the number of tokens you want to transfer. Confirm the transaction and your NFTs will be sent from the platform to your MetaMask.

Security considerations for interacting with the Polygon network via Metamask

Interacting with the Polygon network via MetaMask is a great way to access decentralized applications and services without having to pay exorbitant gas fees associated with Ethereum. However, it is important to be aware of the security implications that come along with connecting a third-party wallet to the Polygon network.

It is important to remember that MetaMask does not support two-factor authentication, which means anyone who has access to your account can log in and access any funds or NFTs stored on the Polygon network. Therefore, it is essential that you protect your account with a strong password (being sure to never use the same password on multiple accounts) and, if possible, enable additional security measures such as multi-signature authentication or other wallet-specific features.

Additionally, it is important to remember that MetaMask does not support Polygon’s Plasma Cash feature, which means any funds sent to your MetaMask wallet from a Plasma Cash-supporting wallet will not be visible in MetaMask. Therefore, it is important to use a wallet that supports both Plasma Cash and Metamask.

Also, be sure to keep your funds safe by regularly backing up your wallet using the MetaMask “Backup” feature and never sharing your private keys or passwords with anyone else. Backing up your MetaMask wallet ensures that all of the data and tokens are stored and can be retrieved should anything ever happen to your device.

By following these simple guidelines, you can ensure that your funds and NFTs are secure while interacting with the Polygon network via MetaMask. With a little bit of caution, you can securely use MetaMask to access the wide range of services offered by the Polygon network.

Final thoughts

Connecting your Metamask wallet to the Polygon network is a great way to access decentralized applications and services without paying exorbitant gas fees. However, it’s important to be aware of the security implications that come along with using this type of service. Be sure to protect your account with strong passwords or additional security measures like multi-signature authentication, back up your MetaMask wallet regularly, and never share private information with anyone else. By following these safety protocols you can securely use MetaMask to take advantage of all the features offered by Polygon Network.
